General Thoughts

These are collagen bars, which is honestly a red flag whenever I see it advertised on products. (FWI, collagen is not a complete protein, so while its independently healthy, it's not particularly useful for muscle-protein synthesis). As with Alani, I love that they're targeting a demographic (female athletes) that are typically neglected by big Supplements (a term I'm officially coining). But based off the macros, collagen (half the bars are collagen, meaning only 10g of "real protein"!), etc., my first impressions are kinda bad.

Price

Normally these run at ~$2-3/bar, but I got like 30 for $10 on eBay. 12/15

Flavors

VP Chocolate Almond

  • Fullness Factor: These are low fiber, but high fat and hefty bars. Though they're voluminous, they're actually only 56g, which is less in weight than your typical bar. The texture (more on that later!) is very chewy, meaning they take a while to consume. Overall, 11/15.
  • Nutrition: At 20P/230Cals, these are fine at first glance. But half of that is collagen, so this really takes a hit when it comes to protein. Not to mention its high fat (11g, 5g saturated), and uses maltitol. The only things it really has going for it is low sugar alcohols (5g) and no added sugar. 20/35.
  • Taste: Crazy chewy and dense. Not particularly flavorful, but not offensive either. The chocolate wasn't super chocolat-y, and the look of the bar gave the false impression it would have much more almond flavor than it did. Overall, the flavor felt kinda muted. 24/35.

VP Salty Chocolate Peanut

  • Fullness Factor: Identical. Overall, 11/15.
  • Nutrition: Identical. 20/35.
  • Taste: Still crazy chewy, but I do at least get a hint of salt. IMHO, it's better than chocolate almond, and honestly not a bad tasting bar. I don't get near as much "bovine collagen peptides" flavor. 26/35.
