General Thoughts

You can't beat those macros, and the frequent sales are awesome. Whenever these go on sale, I usually can't help but make a purchase. The puffs use collagen as their primary protein source, which I don't love for muscle-building purposes, but the regular bars are great. Texture is a bit chewy, and flavors are inconsistent, but that's to be expected when you're eating a bar that's like 50% protein.

Price

These tend to be expensive, but they run frequent sales. You can often get them for $1.5-2 per bar or less. 12/15.

Fullness Factor

These don't keep me full for very long, but given the macros that's understandable. I would have to eat two of these to make it a fair comparison to many protein bars. However, they are still a little low on fiber. 13/15.

Flavors

Salted Caramel

  • Nutrition: Out of this world (17P/130Cals), and quality protein too (whey). Maybe slightly high in sugar? Low in fiber? It's hard to complain. 34/35.
  • Taste: Very good, not unlike a milky way. Some call it too chewy, but I don't mind it. Still, I wish it were slightly saltier. 29/35.

Cookies and Cream

  • Nutrition: Identical to salted caramel. 34/35.
  • Taste: Not bad, but nothing like an Oreo. Almost has a generic protein bar flavor if that makes sense. The chewiness also definitely detracts from the experience. 25/35.
  • Overall: 84

Double Chocolate

  • Nutrition: Identical to salted caramel. 34/35.
  • Taste: Definitely generic protein bar flavor, and for some reason the chewiness really stood out - even more so than on the previous ones. For a chocolate flavor, I'm disappointed. It was slightly better when microwaved, but you really have to time it - even 5 seconds too long and it's ruined! 28/35.

Peanut Butter Brownie

  • Nutrition: By far their worst so far, but still comparable to Pure protein or Quest (though it is low fiber. At 19P/180Cals, 31/35.
  • Taste: I let mine sit out too long, which  might make it hard to be objective. It was very good and not very peanut butter-y. Honestly, it tasted like a better chocolate than their chocolate flavor. So it was surprisingly good based on the low expectations the previous bars set I guess. 28/35.

White Peanut Brownie

  • Nutrition: This is just one of their normal bars, but with 20 extra calories (150) and 1g extra sugar (5g). Even a downgrade in Built's macros is still better than 99% of the market. 33/35.
  • Taste: Holy shit was this one chewy. I preferred it normal to microwaved. It wasn't particularly tasty - the peanut butter was a letdown (which is the whole reason I got the damn thing), but the white chocolate was surprisingly tasty, and I'm not a white chocolate guy. 26/35.

Mint Brownie

  • Nutrition: Identical to salted caramel. 34/35.
  • Taste: I didn't get a lot of "brownie" (though I suppose it's the same as their generic brownie flavors, which are basically just chocolate). The mint was very nice, but artificial tasting, reminding me of Junior Mint candy (except maybe a little milder). 27/35.

Raspberry

  • Nutrition: Identical to salted caramel. 34/35.
  • Taste: Very artificial (not much else to say honestly). Wasn't expecting a chocolate coating. 23/35.

Brownie Batter Puff

  • Nutrition: I mean, it's hard to complain, but note their puffs used collagen as their primary source of protein, and this is definitely higher sugar than I'd like. 26/35.
  • Taste: I like it - these are definitely less chewy and more like a marshmallow than their bars, but nothing exceptional. I don't love the marshmallow texture, but it's definitely something different. 27/35.
  • Overall: 78

S'Mores Chunk

  • Nutrition: This is starting to push it. It's high sugar, doesn't pass the test (15P/160Cals), and again has collagen as its primary protein source. 23/35.
  • Taste: Not offensive, but honestly disappointing (I thought their puffs tasted very marshmallow-y, so I had high hopes this might actually replicate a S'Mores). It looked deceivingly good too. 25/35.
  • Overall: 73/10
